I had a coffee with @mozy19 aka Richard Loat yesterday – well, I had a coffee and he had water. I wrote about Richard and Five Hole For Food (FHFF) in an earlier blog post but wanted to try and get to know the man behind the Five Hole organization.
I was curious about what drives a 21 year-old dude with a movie-star smile to spend every waking hour for months trying to raise awareness and donations for Food Banks. I mean come on fella; there are easier ways to meet girls than that!
Turns out he is not a saint – he likes to party and have fun like any other guy his age, but he has turned a passion for all things hockey into an amazing opportunity to help others. Richard never envisioned just how successful and popular FHFF would be, and he has questions about what is next, and how to keep growing the organization. Good ideas sometimes take on a life of their own and it will be interesting to see what happens next with FHFF.
Richard is remarkably humble and spoke repeatedly about his small army of volunteers who have been instrumental in the organizations success. He may be the “media-darling” and the face of Five Hole For Food but he is quick to give the credit to his team.
Much has been said about Richard and FHFF so I thought I would lighten things up a bit with a short video clip where Mr. Wonderful talks about hockey, his pal Bif Naked, and his love life!
Five Hole For Food’s big fundraiser is a summertime event but hunger in Vancouver never takes a rest. Please donate or volunteer your time to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society. They help feed over 26000 folks each week in Vancouver and they can use your help!
