My brother emailed me about a guy from Rhode Island named Jonathan Stark who has started a cool social media experiment. He has posted a picture of his Starbucks card online and is allowing anybody to go use it to buy a coffee, or better yet buy someone else a coffee. It is based on an old Italian custom called Caffe Pagato, which translates to English as "Coffee Paid". Think of it as "take a penny, leave a penny" meets the internet.
Value, or rather our perception of it is a funny thing. Once man's garbage is another man's feast. If something is free is it of less value than something that is priced at a $1 Million?
When I was in my early twenties my idea of fundraising was returning the empties to scrounge up gas money for the weekend. Meet Richard Loat. Richard and a few of his friends started Five Hole For Food when he was 21 years old. Their goal was to raise donations for local Food Banks by playing street hockey across Canada.
